We are an independent Golf Club, that plays at the Downshire Golf Course near Bracknell in Berkshire. The aim of the club has always been to afford members the opportunity to play friendly and competitive golf at a cost that suits your pocket. Our annual membership fee is £80 with no joining fee, which enables you to have an official handicap and also includes GolfGuard Insurance; it does of course exclude green fees which you would pay direct to the Complex.

Competitions

Club Competitions are generally fortnightly, with one or two exceptions, and we provide a good mix of Saturday, Sunday and Thursday competitions (Medals and Stablefords) throughout the year. Our Knockout competitions run through the summer and on each non competitive Thursday we have a roll up.

We have four major events throughout the year, The Easter Bunny, The Open, Captains Day and The Turkey Trot, where we offer a range of goodies on the course (drinks and snacks), a meal after and excellent prizes. For both the Turkey Trot and Easter Bunny which are fun events, there is a prize for the best fancy dress as well as each competitor taking home 2 bottles of wine and an Easter egg or Christmas pudding.

For more serious golf, our two main competitions are The Barry Morris (36 hole Handicap Medal) and The Club Championship (36 hole Scratch). Both are over two days with the top 21 qualifying for the second day. The Barry Morris is also a qualifying competition for the NAPGC Men’s Championship of England which is the NAPGC’s most prestigious competition.

There is a very active Seniors (+55) section with their own competitions and a fixture list of friendlies played against neighbouring Clubs.

We enter teams in external competitions of various formats to suit all Members, some of which offer the opportunity to play at St Andrews, the home of golf, and many of our Members have done so, often bringing back some silverware.

All Members are welcome to play in all our competitions, whatever their standard. In conjunction with the Complex we offer subsidised coaching to help all of us to improve our game.

Handicaps

All Members are eligible for an official handicap certificate which is recognised at all clubs throughout the UK. In order to gain a handicap you will need to submit three cards. Your handicap will be based on the best of these three cards; the maximum being a 28 handicap for adults. If you have a handicap already you can transfer it to Easthampstead.

Social

The Club is very active socially with away days, away weekends, tours abroad, and other evening events Every Thursday evening is Club night where you’ll be able to meet Committee and Club Members for a convivial chat over a glass or two. Committee Members are normally there from about 8:30 until chuck-out. This is also when competition entry sheets go up on the board; signing up on line is also available.
